Donations

Thank you for thinking of us for your donations. Whether you are cleaning a garage, moving, having a yard sale or dealing with an estate, your donation to the ReStore will help build a home for someone in the community. This is not an exhaustive list. Please call us with specific questions. Usually, we will only pick up working items. All donations are subject to approval.

Additional note regarding pick-ups: Many of our ReStore volunteers are retired. We ask that you bring your donation down to the first level.

Appliances: Please see the specific description.  $15 fee to drop off any non-functional refrigerated appliances including refrigerators, freezers, water coolers, air conditioners, etc. as of September 1, 2021.

Air conditioners: Usually yes, but they need to be in good working condition, otherwise, $15 fee applies.

Baby Furniture: High chairs, strollers, cribs, etc. We cannot take any of these items and our insurance company asks that we dispose of them when they come in. This is due to the ever-changing safety needs.

Bedding: No bedding unless brand new in the original packaging.

Bedroom Furniture: Dressers and nightstands need to be in good repair, please no particleboard (not even veneer covered), all parts need to be present.

Bed Frames: Metal beds only, includes footboard, headboard and frame.  We will on occasion accept other headboards, footboards and frames when it is included with an entire estate.

Bookcases: Most bookcases are ok. Particleboard bookcases with defective backs, or “break out” by the fasteners are not acceptable.

Box Springs: Not at this time.

Blinds: Generally, only if new and in the box only, without string pulls. Metal ones can be recycled. You are welcome to bring those to us. During business hours, of course.

Cabinets: With real wood faces in good condition are accepted. All nails and screws need to be removed, and doors need to be attached.

Carpet: Not at this time, thank you.

Cars: Yes. Call us. They will be picked up at your place. Do not bring them to us.

CD Players: Yes in good working condition.

Chandeliers: Yes, in good condition, all the parts included.

Chairs: Unless antiques, all chairs must be in good repair, not need to be reupholstered, can have no pet damage or bad odors, and be vacuumed, or otherwise cleaned.

Children’s Furniture: We cannot take cribs, high chairs, car seats, or strollers.

Chippers: Nearly always.

Christmas Items: Yes to quality holiday items. They sell well, which helps us build homes! Even old Christmas lights can be recycled.

Computers: Any condition, donor bears the responsibility to remove any personal information.  We do not want to have anyone exposed to identity theft.  Please scrub information from your computer or remove the hard drive before bringing it in, thank you!

Couches: Clean, vacuumed, no deep stains, no smoke or pet odors, no rips, tears, holes, or broken areas, no need or repair. We can not accept hide-a-beds made before 2007 due to mattress flammability.

Counter Tops: If all fasteners are removed, and they are in good condition. No tiled countertops.

Curtains and Drapes: No to fabric curtains and drapes. Curtain rods and blinds need to be new in the box or very clean with all the parts attached.   People can buy new blinds so inexpensively; it is hard to justify handling them. Thanks for thinking of us!

Decking Material: If it still has some life in it, then usually yes. Please have it nail free.

Desks: Yes to smaller desks. We will not pick-up big steel desks, or heavy desks. You may bring in the steel desks for recycling. While we are open, of course.

Dining Room Tables: We can take limited amount of these, providing they are not made of particle board, not in need of refinishing, are in good repair. With or without the chairs. Chairs must not need reupholstering, or refinishing. Antiques are an exception.

Dishes: No thank you.

Doors: We are glad to accept interior and exterior doors with the jambs in good repair. We can also take closet doors, louvered doors, and bi fold doors, if we have room for them.

Electrical: Yes to electrical. Please look for stereo equipment by component type.

Entertainment Centers: We will not pick up entertainments centers. On occasion, we might accept one at the ReStore it is not made of particleboard, and can be used for a closet or pantry.

End Tables: We can take limited amount of these, providing they are not made of particleboard, not in need of refinishing, and are in good repair. Antiques are an exception.

Exercise Equipment: Acceptable in good working condition, and less than five years old. We can take it as scrap metal if you bring it in. Remember, we must be open for all donations.

Fans: Yes in good working condition.

Fencing: Generally yes!

File Cabinets: Yes, in good condition.

Flooring: Yes to vinyl flooring that is new, never installed, at least 5’ x 8’. Other flooring by the whole box, or at least 20 square feet. For tile, see tile.

*IMPORTANT: Pergo type flooring cannot be accepted unless we can prove that it was made anywhere other than China.

Fluorescent Lights: Fixtures and tubes are not accepted at this time.

Freezers: Yes if they are 10 years old or newer in good working condition and clean.  We can pick up any working freezers, but non-working freezers will need to be brought in and are subject to a $15 disposal fee.

Furnaces: Yes. We can at least recycle them. Please tell us about their condition when donated.

Furniture: Our best sellers! We love clean, ready to sell, items that are pet-damage-free, from no- smoke homes, in good repair and still comfortable! From double recliners and hide-a-beds to antiques, we love these items!

Hardware: We accept nails, nuts, bolts, screws, and other miscellaneous hardware.

Heat Pumps: Usually yes. Please inform us of their condition.

Heaters: Yes, in good working condition.

Helmets: We can take hard hats, but no helmets of any kind, unless new in the box. Helmets are no longer usable if they have been stressed.

Hot Water Tanks: Yes, if you can bring them in.

Hutches: In good condition, we like them. Please no broken glass, missing shelves, or particleboard construction. Antiques are welcome, in good and somewhat repairable condition.

Insulation: Must be new and clean.

Lamps: In good repair are welcome, with or without the shade.

Lawn Furniture: In good repair.

Kitchen items: We can take small appliances in working condition.

Ladders: Yes to metal. Wooden ladders need to be in great condition with original paperwork.

Lawn Mowers: Yes. Even riders! Almost without exception.

Mattresses: Due to health concerns, no mattresses or box springs will be accepted from the general public.

Medical equipment: Please donate to the Senior Citizen Center in town. They loan it out free! We support that service! 

Microwaves: For us to pick up, they need to be less than ten years old, clean, and in good working condition. You may bring in non-working microwaves of any age for us to recycle.

Monitors: In good working condition, not more than five years old, unless also a flat screen TV.

Musical Instruments: Yes to most of them, if they are still functional. See pianos or organs for those items.

Office equipment: Please no heavy copy machine, heavy desks. Other items are often ok. Keep looking!

Organs: Sorry! Unless it is a pipe organ, there is not much market for them. You might try the transfer station. They might take it if it is considered electronic recycling. It is sad that these instruments are no longer desired… 

Paint: No longer accepted after August 31, 2021.  Please take paint products to the transfer station at 1601 Railroad Ave. in St. Helens.

Pet items: Yes to most.

Pianos: We are glad to take spinet pianos, recently appraised at 500.00 or more. If you have a grand piano, give us a call, and we will consider it. For others, we suggest that you call a local piano teacher and give it to a student in need.

Pictures: Only high end gallery quality accepted at this time, thank you.

Plumbing: Yes to most plumbing.

Printers: Yes!

Ranges: We will pick up working stoves or ranges in good condition and clean, not more than 10 years old.  We can recycle any range regardless of condition if you bring it in.

Records, Tapes, Recordings: Yes, however, will throw away any that are worse than PG in rating, or have unacceptable photography/wording.  Please do not donate personal use recordings and purge any commercial recordings with questionable moral content.

Refrigerators: For us to pick up, they need to be less than ten years old, clean, and in good working condition. You may bring in non-working refrigerators of any age for us to recycle. No bad odors.  Non-working refrigerators of any age may be brought in for recycling with $15 fee.  

*We will not pick up dead appliances, unless convenient for us to do so.

Roto-tillers: Nearly always.

Screws: Nuts, bolts, screws, hardware. Usually yes!

Sewing Machines: Yes. Even though they may not sell well, we can at least recycle them. That helps build homes too!

Sheetrock: New, half-sheet or larger.

Sinks: No plastic sinks or sinks of any type that are a color other than white. Ceramic and cast iron are ok, if clean and chip free.

Small appliances: Yes!  Please let us know if they are working when you drop them off, thank you.

Sports Equipment: Exercise equipment is acceptable if it is new, in working condition, in the box, and less than five years old. We can take it as scrap metal if you bring it in. Remember, we must be open for all donations. Most other sports equipment is acceptable, except for skis. Please donate them to an area with significant snowfall.

Stereos: Yes!

Shower Doors: Yes to great doors without water spots. Please bring in the hardware too!

Stone: Not at this time, thank you.

Stoves and ranges:  We will pick up working stoves or ranges in good condition and clean, not more than 10 years old. We can recycle any range regardless of condition if you bring it in.

Strollers, Cribs, High Chairs: We cannot take any of these items and our insurance company asks that we dispose of them when they come in.

Suitcases: No thank you. 

Tables: We can take limited amount of these, providing they are not made of particleboard, not in need of refinishing, are in good repair. With or without the chairs. Chairs must not need reupholstering, or refinishing. Antiques are an exception.

Tarps: Usually yes.

Tile: We are no longer accepting tile.

Tires: We do not accept tires with or without rims intended for road use. Wheelbarrow tires in good condition are ok. No go-cart tires, quad tires, etc. 

Toilets: Toilets need to be clean, dry, 1.6 gal or less flush, oval bowls, and in good repair.

Tools: Usually yes.

TVs: Yes, as long as the screen is not glass. All “big box” TVs should be recycled at the transfer station, even if they are flat screens. Old TV tube type monitors and televisions with big tubes are not accepted as we are charged for their disposal.

VCRs: Yes.

Washers & Dryers: For us to pick up, they need to be less than ten years old, clean, and in good working condition. You may bring in non-working dryers of any age for us to recycle. We can take both gas and electric. 

*We will not pick up dead appliances.

Water Dispensers: Yes, in working condition. If refrigerated and not working, $15 fee applies.

Water Heaters: Yes, if you can bring them to us.

Wood: All wood, whether trim or sheet of plywood, must be nail and screw free, for our safety.

Wood stoves: Need to be DEQ certified with the label intact and in good condition for us to pick up. Any wood stove can be brought in for us to recycle. 

Wheels: We can take all wheels without tires. We will likely recycle them.

Windows: Wood windows with multiple panes, yes. No broken glass. Vinyl glass windows, new or used, thermal pane, without interior leaking, great! Includes patio doors. No aluminum patio doors.

Wire: Yes, to most wire.
